Cynthia Nixon and Miranda Hobbes

After the first time I watched “Sex and the City” the series, I am obsessed! Mostly because the plot is so relevant to me. And the acting of the casts are amazing. They were really into their characters that we could believe the story is real while it is purely fictional. As for some people, maybe the series won their heart because of the fashion. Yep, the show accentuates high fashion in each episode.

Cut to the chase, I want to describe a little about the story. It is about four New York single girls who are very close with each other as best friends. There is Carry Bradshaw, a columnist who is writing about sex every week for newspaper. Then there is Samantha Jones, the ultimate party girl who refuse to committed with anybody but one night stand partner for one night stand sex. And, Charlotte York, who believes in marriage, having quite lavish life but face some struggles to find the one. And the last but not least, Miranda Hobbes, a very tough lawyer who appreciates sarcasm very much.

They live in New York City (NYC) like since forever. The city is their soul. So “Sex and the City” (SATC) basically describe their stories in New York. That makes the city has main role here equal with the four girls. And surprise, on March 20th 2018, Cynthia Nixon who played Miranda Hobbs has announced that she is running for Governor of New York City ! As a democrat, she will face Governor Cuomo in a September primary.

As a big fan of SATC, it really got me. Because she just brings her Miranda Hobbes character into reality. In SATC, she is a smart woman who has a job as lawyer, tough one. She loves NYC especially Manhattan, as much as other girls that she is really sad when she needs to move to Brooklyn because she needs to find bigger house for her family. So is with Carrie Bradshaw who was being invited by her boyfriend to move to Paris for good. They embrace NYC so much in the show. And by Cynthia Nixon is one step closer to become the governor of NYC, I think it will touch all big fan's hearts of SATC including me !

Unfortunately (for me), Cynthia is a lesbian in real life. She has a wife that she married long time ago. As I never (and won't) support LGBTQ, for me it's a shame if NYC has a lesbian governor. Cynthia has been active in politics, particularly on behalf of LGBTQ issues. She was politically vocal last year at the Tony Awards when she won for Best Featured Actress in Lillian Hellman’s The Little Foxes and has not held back when it comes to Trump. So you can already guess, lot of her policy plans will include lot of support for LGBTQ. And she also will legalize Marijuana, which is still quite controversial because lot of people would agree and disagree. But she is unstoppable. As I see from the news, the campaign has already started since a month. And it seems that she has lot of supporters who would vote her.

If I was New Yorker, I might not give my vote for her due to her lesbian status. But I will be still amazed that she brings her character as Miranda Hobbes in SATC to reality. After SATC 2 the movie, there will be no SATC 3 for sure, because one of the main character could be a governor this year and also Kim Catrall who played Samantha Jones seems having a personal issue with executive producer Sarah Jessica Parker. It is devastating that there will be no more SATC series or movie but I can still enjoy watching the old shows. Good luck for your candidacy, Cynthia. You will be forever Miranda Hobbes in my heart...
